"The true criterion of the practical, therefore, is not whether the latter can keep intact the wrong or foolish; rather is it whether the scheme has vitality enough to leave the stagnant waters of the old, and build, as well as sustain, new life." -- Emma Goldman

Okay, updates!
Finals are OVER! Yay! They were so much fun, too! Just checked my grades... four Bs and a C-. Not bad, not great. I was expecting a better grade from my Phonetics class, though. I'll have to email the prof.
MSO/Denver Pops is OFF for the Summer! I went to the potluck tonight. It was alright, I got the "Ecological Moocher" award for my mooching of car rides :-P
I've started work for LaFarge as a consultant. I'm not complaining, but they're paying me WAY too much. Full time for May, probably close to full time in June and most of July as well. I'll finally be able to afford school!
Amy won the Meester scholarship... Which surprised me muchly (not that she didn't deserve it, but none of us was expecting it).
I've decided that Nathan either isn't ready for a relationship or isn't interested, due to a complete lack of contact. Therefore I am ending it officially (right here and now) so that I don't end up bitter and enraged like I did with Craig. However, I have someone new to think about (I'd be a slut except for never sleeping with anyone ;-), so that keeps me warm at night. Now, I just have to tell HIM that I'm interested.
I have a new roommate, Nathaniel (what's with the Nathans?), who goes by Nat. It'll be interesting. He's cute (very skinny ^_^), but, I believe, straight. MechE. Stupid engineers.
Too much to do. Sigh. I think that's about all I have for the 30-second update. I must tell this mystery person (whom I have not disclosed 'cause he might read this... dunno) soon... because, reiterating the statement from November 22, 2003:
I need a boyfriend!

Hey folks, probably should do some sort of update... but I'm not going to. I will discuss Google's gmail briefly, though (becacuse I like bandwagons). I like it. I haven't done an extensive test of it yet (I don't really get a lot of legitimate email, outside of the univ addy), but my absolute favorite feature is "Labels." Labels, says the documentation, are like folders, except that rather than putting messages into folders, you apply labels to the messages. And you can apply more than one. So I can finally oraganize my emails how I want to, in a manner that works conceptually well for me. Example: some messages I receive contain more than one type of content. Say a joke I really really like, and a letter from mom. Normally I'd end up putting it in the "mom" folder, putting it in the "jokes" folder, or leaving it in my inbox because I can't decide which is more important. With labels, I can say, "this is a joke" and "this is from mom," and when I want a good joke, I click on the "jokes" label. And when I want a letter from mom, I click on the "mom" label. Simple. Elegant. *mwah!* The thing that I want: the ability to merge "conversations," because sometimes a convo is continued but the thread itself is different.

Heyo tutti!
Well, I guess I'm more or less back to my usual hijinks. I've got a couple concerts coming up this month, then first week of May I've finals and then I'm OFF FOR THE SUMMER! Woo! Well, I'm going to have to work, but otherwise off.
I'm in a good mood since 1) I got my Grand Canyon Pictures back on Saturday, some of which I'll be posting eventually, 2) I got an 84 on my latest Physics exam, which puts me on the upper end of the class, and 3) NATHAN. Not sure whether I can claim boyfriend status yet, but it is definitely leaning in that direction.
Let's see. I have some R'thoria's Used Plot Elements nearly ready to post but not quite there yet. I may repost my favorite, since most of the folks that read this blog won't have seen it yet.
I also hope to have the Grand Canyon Diaries up soon. I'd best not waste any time, or I'll forget the AWESOME MAGNIFICENCE of the Canyon (not to mention the HILARITY of the Canyon Chicken [induced by Canyon Dust (the hilarity, not the chicken)]).
DelPhi elections were last night. Unsurprisingly, I stayed one step ahead of the competition by being nominated and handily won the post of Secretary once again. Consequently, I will likely be going inactive in PhiSig next semester to give me more time to focus on my schoolwork and on DelPhi. To be honest, I'm kinda surprised that as few people ran as... did... um *bad grammar alarms go off* SHHH!! *throws his shoe at the alarms* Anyway, three of the four positions were uncontested, and the fourth (president) had only two candidates. I think the vote was close, though, despite what some others think. And Florencio will make a good President, if not as determined and dedicated as Jason would've.
Also, it was asked recently whether the incident in PhiSig involving someone requesting me to not forward GLBTIQ stuff to the listserv had lead me to stop coming to the lunch parties in the office. I originally said no, that I simply liked the GSA better. And that's true... but on the other hand I really don't want to spend as much time with PhiSig anymore. I don't know what, exactly, it is, whether I just have more fun with the queers or what. But anyway.
I should be going. Best to y'all, hopefully I'll have more soon.

Which Oh My Gods! Character are You?
brought to you by Quizilla
Couple comics:
Broken Saints which is... very cool. But, it's animated, which means I don't get to control really how long it takes me to read it.
Oh My Gods! is, well it's fun! Lego People! Woo!

Where to start? Where to start?
Night of Madness went well. We actually managed to keep the theme of the party from the bigs relatively well (though at one point Dusty said, "Even if it were a 70s party, I would be ready." Eep! Right idea, wrong decade...) But it was a great amount of fun, and we didn't even drink (well... Andrew had some, so did Dusty and the other bigs, but otherwise...) And we got our nicknames (but not why, yet), which means that if any of you betas read this, you will now know who to interview. :-) We each got a female nickname, since we were uncomfortable with being refered to in the feminine when the bigs did it. Mine is Cholandra. Then we also got our regular nicknames. Mine is Dumbledorf (or possibly Dumbledore... see, I'm a bit confused about that since the books say "Dumbledore" but the note my big left me says "Dumbledorf." Not that it really matters all that much either way.)
Saturday I had rehearsal, and then I went to my cousin's welcome home from Iraq party, which was good. Unfartunately, I missed beta induction, but family's gotta come first. I have a Little Brother, Manny. He seems like a really good kid, so we'll see how things progress. I had coffee with him last Tuesday (okay, well I had chai and he didn't have anything, but... yeah, it was on Tuesday) and we talked and got to know one another. It was good.
Sunday I had rehearsal, and then meeting. Monday I ditched my first class to work on homework for my second, and then had PhiSig meeting that evening. Tuesday, work, then I went to the lab to get my notebook and went to the GSA office (or did I come home and then go to the GSA office? I can't remember). I ran into Nathan on the way there and we finalized our plans for dinner on Thursday. Much of the rest of the day was spent trying to do my mechanics homework. Wednesday I was feeling very sicck so I ditched my first two classes and worked on mechanics, instead. Dress rehearsal for Denver Pops was Wednesday night. It went well. Thursday morning was alright, work (the deli slicer had broken, so we were using salad's... but it came back Thursday, all fixed!), and lab went alright.
Dunno how much I wanna talk about Thursday evening. I had a good time and Nathan said he had a good time, so that's really all you need to know. Well, that and maybe that we're going to do something else soon, like go to a concert or something. (It was annoying, though, I don't know whether it was stress or what, but, on schedule, I got a big zit... Thursday morning)
Today was alright. It's a beautiful day out... only problem is, I'm going to be stuck here trying to figure out a way to get the music for the quartet gig tomorrow night. Our first violinist, Chan (and his girlfriend, who was our second) decided that we were being very unprofessional and quit Thursday (2 days before the gig). Now, I don't wanna talk about unprofessional, but that's really not very good. So, we were able to find two substitutes, but we still need to get the music. Sigh. Why the drama?!!?!?
Oh yeah, I forgot, I'm queer. :-p
I'm thinking about doing an installment of R'thoria's Used Plot Elements on here, but I probably won't do that today. I've got some great titles, though, and I've even got a design for one of them.
That's all for now. I'm hungry!

The Parable of the Bread Knife
I work(ed) in a dining hall (I gave my two week notice on Sunday, so I won't be there much longer. Yay!). One of my job functions is to slice rolls, which I am fairly decent at. The knives available to me are not very sharp, in general. In fact, they are downright dull.
Several weeks ago, I was slicing bread, and commenting on how dull the knives were. I took one and ran it across my hand, inflicting, of course, no wound, in order to demonstrate my point. Several days later, I was cutting bread again, acting as if the knife were dull. I cut my hand, as the knife had just been sharpened. Because of my contempt for the blade, the one time it was actually dangerous, I didn't take proper precautions.
The moral? The knife that is dull lulls one into a false sense of security. The knife that is always sharp teaches one quickly to be aware.
